My name is Margaret George ( nee Hearn) and I must have been one of Mabel‘s first friends! Our fathers were Methodist ministers and so they knew each other in Burton on Trent where we all lived. We went to Burton on Trent high school from 8 to 10 years old after which our parents thought we would be better and safer to go to boarding school in Bideford Devon. We were in the charge of the conductor on the train with two changes. Would that happen in these days? We were at Edgehill College for four years and went home for holidays except one Easter when we could not go home as they thought Germany was nearing England – France being occupied – and we stayed with two maiden ladies for that holiday– friends of Mabel‘s parents. No electricity and cold water for washing! We have revisited Bournemouth and have kept in touch now and again. I spoke to her at Christmas and thought her voice was weak – so not surprised to have the card. So many happy memories of dear Mabel.
